Pathology Hour: The Spine Series
with Olya and Niya
A 5-part live series exploring the spine from structural understanding to practical application. We start with the big picture, then zoom in on the neck, posture patterns, disc-related conditions, and real-world case studies.
Sessions are on Zoom, with time for questions. Recordings will be sent within 48 hours. No need to be a Pilates instructor — this is open to all movement professionals or anyone curious about the body.
You’ll only need a small deflated Pilates ball and a large cushion, bolster or Pilates box for the final session.
Session Schedule
1. Spine Overview
Friday, August 1 – 10:00 AM with Olya
An introduction to spinal anatomy. We’ll cover vertebral structure and size differences, and what holds us upright — from ligaments to stabilising muscles.
2. The Neck: Bones and Muscles
Friday, August 8 – 10:00 AM with Olya
A closer look at the cervical spine. What sets it apart from the rest of the spine? What muscles are involved — and how many are working to keep your head upright?
3. Postural and Habitual Strain
Friday, August 15 – 2:30 PM with Niya
Forward head posture, tech neck and habitual strain patterns. What they look like in real people, how they develop, and what to consider when working with them.
4. Disc and Degenerative Conditions
Friday, August 22 – 2:30 PM with Niya
We’ll unpack what’s happening during disc herniation or degeneration, what the research says, and how we can support clients through movement.
5. Practical Application
Friday, August 29 – 3:00 PM with Olya and Niya
Apply what you’ve learned using real case studies. We’ll guide you through movement options, adaptations, and clinical reasoning — no special equipment needed.
Pricing

What is it?
Pathology Hour is a one-hour, topic-based session designed for Pilates instructors, students, and movement professionals who want to deepen their understanding of common health conditions — and learn how to translate that knowledge into confident, safe, and effective programming.
Each session dives into one condition — from osteoporosis to scoliosis, hypermobility to post-surgical rehab. We unpack what’s actually happening in the body, what the research says, and how that informs the choices we make in the studio.
This is not a lecture. It’s applied knowledge, explained clearly and practically, with space for reflection and questions.
Who is it for?
You’re a Pilates instructor or movement student looking to work with real clients — not ideal textbook bodies.
You want to go beyond “avoid this exercise” and start thinking critically about why.
You feel unsure when a client mentions a diagnosis you don’t fully understand.
You’ve already learned the basics, but want help making sense of them in real-world settings.
You’re ready to stop guessing — and start teaching with confidence.
What You’ll Get?
- A 60-minute live session led by an experienced educator
- A focused breakdown of one pathology and its relevance in movement
- Clarity around what’s safe, what’s outdated, and what’s missing nuance
- Practical applications — what this means in Pilates terms: load, movement, cueing, class planning
- Space to ask questions and workshop scenarios
- Optional follow-up material or resources depending on the topic
